The First Year, First Semester Marathon

By design, the first semester of an MBA program is the busiest and most intense and that’s no different here at Georgia. In September, first year students are preparing for midterms in their core classes while preparing for and attending one or more virtual and in-person career fairs: National Black MBA Association Conference, Prospanica Conference & Career Expo, MBA Veterans Fair, Grace Hopper Celebration, and Reaching Out MBA Conference, to name a few. Deadline and event conflicts invariably clash, stress levels are high (especially on the days around the finance and accounting exams!), and students are working hard to juggle it all. For many career paths, the fall recruiting fairs are their best opportunities for interviewing with major employers in the hopes of securing their summer internship early. For other students, the career fairs help them prepare for interviews with other companies who hire later in the year or in the spring (just-in-time hires). This is the time when s...

Meet Our Inaugural 2+2 Students

Our 2+2 Program is designed to help highly motivated students to jump-start their careers through deferred enrollment into our Full-Time MBA program during their final year of undergraduate or graduate study. Our inaugural enrollees of the 2+2 Program started this fall, so we want to highlight their journeys thus far. Learn about Georgia MBA ‘23 members, Pierce Vaughn and Ryan McEnaney. Pierce Vaughn Pierce became a Dawg this fall through an unlikely but uniquely compelling journey. After graduating in corporate finance from East Tennessee State, he interned for the FBI and leveraged this experience into crypto currency security consulting. His passion for disruptive tech led him to research and specialize in crypto currency. His work for DC-based consulting firms Entegra Partners and Abaxx gave him the opportunity to consult the US government on crypto currency security and fraud. Pierce ultimately decided the 2+2 Program was right for him because he values education, self-bett...

Application Advice: Know Your Why

Maybe you are unhappy in your current career, maybe you have just hit a plateau and want a role that is more challenging and fulfilling. For either situation, an MBA can help you make that transition. Before you dive into furiously filling out application forms and panicking about deadlines, you need to think about the Big Picture. Why are you seeking an MBA? What do you want to get out of the degree? To find the best program for you, you need to do some reflection and some research. Holistic review First, you need to understand the holistic review process because it helps to know how admissions readers and committees approach their work. For one, they are looking to admit people every time they review an application. They are looking for your strengths and to understand the complexity of your challenges and accomplishments. Use that to your advantage by giving them the information – evidence – they are looking for. The application tells a story and each element of an application s...

Friends, Food, Football

In the fall, Saturdays are Game Days in Athens and the first home game is a major event for many Athenians and Georgia Bulldog fans. Downtown Athens transforms into a sea of red and black tailgate tents and fans of all shapes and sizes decked out in their best Georgia gear. Dedicated fans set up their tailgate spots the night before the game or early in the morning the day of the game because spots are first come, first served. Some groups and families have been in the same spot for decades. Tailgating brings friends and families together, whether or not they are diehard football fans! They come to enjoy a beautiful day in Athens, share great food, and spend time with friends. For MBA students, these tailgates are part of the Georgia MBA experience. Our spot is in the Davis Courtyard outside Correll Hall, which is prime real estate for walking to the stadium and watching the crowd stream by the building. For the uninitiated, game days can be a little overwhelming until they get into ...
