We're hosting a Full-Time Terry MBA Information Session this Saturday, October 2nd, at 10am in Sanford Hall here at the University of Georgia main campus in Athens. If you're thinking about getting an MBA and/or planning to apply for our Round One application deadline on October 15th, you don't want to miss this opportunity to learn more about how a Terry MBA can help you achieve your career goals. Fall 2011 Application Available

To those of you who have anxiously been awaiting the availability of the Fall 2011 application for the Full-Time MBA program, thank you for your patience. I'm happy to announce that the application is now available. You'll notice a few changes right away.

No more sending transcripts or test scores. You will now be prompted to upload electronic copies of your transcripts and self-report your test scores. No official documents will be required until after acceptance. This way, you know when you submit your application that we have those items. No more waiting to see when your transcripts or test scores reach our office.

We now accept the GRE. You may choose to submit GRE results instead of GMAT results if you wish or in addition to GMAT results if you've taken both.

Essay questions have changed. We now have two required essays (rather than three), and you have up to 750 words to answer each. You may still submit a third, optional essay if you wish. This year's essay questions are:

Essay One: What are your short-term and long-term career goals? What position would you like to obtain immediately after completing your MBA? How has your work experience to date prepared you for that role? What steps will you take during your time in the MBA program to increase the likelihood of successfully achieving your short-term career goal? Why is this career path meaningful to you? (750 words maximum, please double space.)

Essay Two: Write about a time when you had a significant misunderstanding with someone from a different background or culture. (750 words maximum, please double space.)

The 2-Hour Job Search

A note from Kerry: Today I'm excited to welcome my colleague, Shannon Caldwell, Director of the Terry MBA Career Management Center, as a guest blogger. Here's are Shannon's thoughts on an exciting workshop we are hosting today.

After seeing Steve Dalton speak this summer in Boston, I’m really excited to be welcoming him to campus today to speak to all of our students.

A Duke MBA and an associate director at the Fuqua Career Management Center, Steve developed this approach especially for the way the millennial generation likes to structure time and work. There is very little truly original in the field of job search advice. Steve’s approach is original. UGA MBAs will be hearing it before the public, since Steve’s book hasn’t yet been released.

Steve’s own words:

“Use your contacts.” “Have a powerful resume.” “Start your own blog.” With so much job search advice online, it is incredibly difficult to decide which advice to actually follow. Distractions and red herrings are everywhere, so it is critical to know how to separate what needs to get done now from what can wait a few days (or be ignored entirely).

The subject of an upcoming book, The Two-Hour Job Search is essentially a “quick start guide” for your job search. Instead of offering laundry lists of tips and leaving it up to you to decide which to try when, The Two-Hour Job Search identifies the most critical steps and provides exact instructions for completing them most efficiently. Spending any less than two hours on this process results in cut corners, but spending any longer is truly unnecessary.

The Two-Hour Job Search was created from scratch using the best practices from MBA disciplines like operations and behavioral economics. It reduces the off-campus search into its three main components – Prioritizing, Contacting, and Convincing – and optimizes each one, maximizing the effectiveness and minimizing the exhaustion of getting from career goal to interview.
